General Summary of Position:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator or designee, the Research Coordinator I will collaborate with a team of health scientists and research staff with diverse background.  As a teammate, he or she will be responsible for independently engaging, recruiting, enrolling, interviewing, measuring and communicating with study participants of the Healthy Aging and Neighborhood Study (HANS). Supported by the National Institute on Aging, HANS is being conducted in multi-ethnic and multi-racial older adult populations in northeastern and central Massachusetts. The Research Coordinator I will serve as a liaison of the study with local communities.   

The Research Coordinator I will support research studies on health and well-beings of frail older adults living in communities. S/he will visit participant homes, senior centers and clinical sites, and have frequent face-to-face contacts with vulnerable study participants who may have immunodeficiencies. According to the approved study protocol, the Research Coordinator I is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and seasonal flu.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific, behavioral or health care field
  • Bilingual or multilingual, ability to communicate proficiently in both English and any of Spanish, Vietnamese, Lao/Laotian, or Chinese
  • Strong oral and written communication skills that are necessary for interacting effectively with study participants and local community organizations, and project team members
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a larger team of researchers and staff with diverse racial/ethnic, cultural background and diverse scientific expertise
  • Excellent organization, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in use of productivity software (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proficient in computer and phone conference capability to complete study activities remotely
  • A vehicle and a valid MA Driver’s License are required to conduct field work

Additional Considerations:

  • Knowledge of geography and communities in Northeastern and Central Massachusetts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in working in African American, Hispanic or Asian communities
  • Knowledge of federal requirements for the conduct of human studies

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) bargaining unit position, Grade P13.
