General Summary of Position:
The successful applicant will conduct analytical and experimental research related to Bio-Fluids and Aerosol Sciences. With focus in: Inhalation Drug Delivery.
The initial appointment will be for approximately 1 year (Jan. 2026 – Dec. 2026) benefited at 50% time with a possibility of renewal based on interest, productivity, performance and the availability of funding.
Essential Job Duties:
1- 30% Conduct analytical and experimental research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI). This specifically involves:
- Conducting experiments, in particular with 3D printed casts, acquiring data, setting up and working with equipment, analyzing and interpreting data.
- Utilizing data analytics and machine learning techniques to analyze data and develop models.
- Ensuring all project-related activities are conducted on time and to the highest standard.
- Preparing status reports and deliverables in collaboration with and under the direction of the PI.
- Serving as a liaison between PI and collaborating research partners.
- Work closely with the PI, graduate and undergraduate students
- Cultivating existing research projects, initiate new research activities, facilitate teaching and outreach activities.
2- 10 % Assist supervisor in writing scholarly articles and proposals for grant funding.
The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and assist in the formulation and writing of externally funded research proposals. This effort will include finding appropriate opportunities, finding collaborative partners, generating preliminary data, and proposal writing.
The successful candidate will be expected to publish at least one article per year in peer-reviewed scientific journals based on the research conducted. Papers and presentations in scientific conferences will also be required. Development of patentable technologies over the course of the project will also be expected.
3- 5% Attend Meetings related to the research projects.
- Conduct weekly group meeting between PI, postdocs, and students
- Actively participate and present in the cross-institutional research meetings.
- Present research at conferences
4- 5% Supervision of Undergraduate and Graduate Students:
- Meet regularly throughout the week with each student to review their research project, progress, papers and to develop path forward.
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, or Physics) by time of appointment
Experience:
- Minimum five years of experience (including MS and PhD research experience) in research.
Skills:
- Knowledge of computational fluid mechanics
- Motivation and self-direction
- Exemplary problem-solving, as well as written and oral communication skills
- Eligibility to work legally in the United States
- A track record of scholarly research
- Ability to work with the research team which includes undergraduate and graduate students
- Experience with machine learning is desirable.
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
- Experience with flow measurements and 3D printing..
Additional Considerations:
- Publications in the field biomedical engineering or related fields
- Ability to work independently, with limited direction, as well as within a team environment.
- Ability to mentor and inspire students with limited research experience.

This is a benefited part-time (53.33%FTE) union position in Grants & Contracts union. Grade PD has a formal range (annualized) of $50,000-$76,000. Anticipated hiring salary of $700/week (annual equivalent of $36,400/year) based on 20 hours/week.
This position is contingent upon funding. The initial appointment will be for approximately 1 year (Jan. 2026 – Dec. 2026) benefited at 50% time with a possibility of renewal based on interest, productivity, performance and the availability of funding.
