Senior Labor Educator (Promotional Opportunity)

General Summary of Position:

This being a promotional opportunity, only current UML Employees within the same Bargaining unit are eligible to apply for this position.

The Senior Labor Educator provides leadership in curriculum design, teaching, research, program management, and community partnerships within the Labor Education Program. This role engages labor and community organizations, faculty, and students in developing innovative and equity-centered educational and research initiatives focused on workplace rights, labor policy, economic justice, and the changing conditions of work. The Senior Labor Educator plays a central role in strategic planning, program development, fundraising, and public scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Doctoral degree in labor studies, political science, sociology, education, or a related field.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in labor education, workforce development, or related areas.
  • Deep knowledge of labor history, workforce policy, and labor organizing. Strong leadership, oral/written communication, technological proficiency, and commitment to equity.
  • Experience designing and coordinating educational programs for trade unionists
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, organizational, and communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, especially in word processing and database programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with social media communication
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Cultural sensitivity to persons of all backgrounds and nationalities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Second language (Portuguese, Spanish or Khmer) 
  • Demonstrated (over three years) experience teaching adults in union or community based setting and designing programs around workers and/or labor issues

Additional Considerations:

  • Strong commitment to diversity and the labor movement
  • Flexibility in work hours to include evenings and weekends in order to successfully accomplish objectives and satisfy goals
  • Must be willing to travel (will be required to use own automobile, mileage paid).

This is a Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) Union position, Grade P17.

This position is contingent upon funding.
