General Summary of Position:

This being an internal opportunity, only current UML Employees, irrespective of Bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.

The biostatistician will work with a team of health services researchers at University of Massachusetts Lowell, Johns Hopkins University, and Brown University. Major responsibilities will include management of large business datasets, performing data analysis; formatting and organizing analytic files; data cleaning and quality checks; creating derived variables and analytic data subsets. This will require experience with multiple software programs and a master’s level understanding of biostatistics. The analyst will also be expected to contribute to manuscript development.

Duties include:

1. Data management. Data management responsibilities include managing, designing and building business databases on multiple platforms for studies using SAS, R, and STATA. They will perform data cleaning and quality checks, formatting and organizing analytic files, coding variables, and managing codebooks.

2. Statistical Data Analysis. S/he will conduct data analysis using SAS/STATA/R for complex data from cross-sectional and longitudinal studies. They will perform descriptive analysis, bivariate analysis, and multivariable linear and logistic regression analyses. They will run validation analyses as needed; work closely with research faculty to build analysis; and present and review statistical analysis results with team.

3. Co-author scientific journal articles and assist with writing of conference presentations S/he will collaborate with researchers in diverse disciplines on multiple projects as a co-author on scientific journal articles and conference presentations.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • Masters degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, nutrition, quantitative social science, or related field.

Experience:

  • 1+ year experience with statistical programming and/or data management, which may include experience working on Masters degree.

Skills:

  • SAS, knowledge of statistical methodology and analysis, data management, strong detail orientation

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience with business data (e.g., Pitchbook, LevinPro) preferred

This is a Grants & Contracts (MTA/GRACE) bargaining unit position, Grade P16.

This position is contingent upon funding. The appointment is for one year, contingent upon productivity, successful performance, and the availability of funding.
