General Summary of Position:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is searching for a part-time Research Technician. The successful candidate will assist in research and administrative tasks in the Light Dynamics Lab. These include basic lab maintenance and procurement, assisting with the research projects, and student/staff onboarding. The position is expected to start on May 1, 2025. 

Essential Job Duties:

  •  Assist in lab manual preparation and lab safety oversight.
  • Prepare hydrogels, biomaterials, and cell culture systems.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and validation of optical sensors and imaging devices.
  • Conducting experiments for evaluating phantom hydrogels, biomaterials, and cell culture system towards testing and validation of the system.
  • Assist with performing, and managing clinical studies.
  • Process acquired images and visualize the data, assist with preparing the manuscript figures and drafting the text.
  • Help with preparing grant applications and progress reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (M.Sc. is preferred)
  • Demonstrated competence in wet lab research techniques and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience is image processing, data analysis, and presentation.
  • Experience in programming languages such as MATLAB and/or Python (preferred).
  • Solid understanding of common Engineering and/or Biotechnology skills and techniques.
  • Experience with the management of Engineering and/or Biotechnology projects.

Additional Considerations:

  • High level of technical proficiency 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

This is a temporary, non-unit, non-benefited position and is contingent upon funding. If there is mutual interest, there may be an option for the candidate if admitted to the graduate program in the Biomedical Engineering program and continue as a research assistant, while pursuing a PhD.
