General Summary of Position:

This being a promotional opportunity, only current UML Employees within the same Bargaining unit are eligible to apply for this position.

The Director of Business Operations is a key role for the Rist Institute for Sustainability & Energy with a responsibility to assist in the development and implementation of Institute’s plans and goals. Working closely with the Senior Executive Director of the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy, Climate Tech, and Economic Development, the Director of Business Operations will direct and coordinate daily operations, maintain grants and financial accounts, oversee staffing, manage fellowships and funding initiatives, act as designated contact point for UNFCCC specific to COP attendance and engagement, monitor objectives, provide comprehensive reporting, lead execution and planning of events, develop marketing and outreach initiatives, enhance corporate engagement and external partnerships, and support the student and faculty research enterprise.

The Director of Business Operations will lead a coordinated approach to achieve the Rist Institute for Energy & Sustainability's collective goals through support, leadership, and collaboration with both internal and external advisory boards, on-campus student organizations, UMass Lowell’s Climate Change Initiative, Center for Energy Innovation, and the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, business management, public administration or equivalent
  • Master's degree with a preference for an master's in business administration (MBA) in these fields is desirable
  • Significant experience in business operations, management, or related roles is essential.
    • Minimum ten years (Bachelors) or 5 years (Masters) of experience
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate teams, set clear objectives, and drive performance
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively and with a proven philosophy of service
  • Strong problem-solving skills are essential for identifying challenges, developing solutions, and implementing effective strategies to address them

Additional Considerations:

  • Prior experience working in a higher education office environment
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Software, including finance & H.R. applications. Familiarity with Salesforce software a plus
  • Exhibits exceptional organizational skills, with proven ability to manage tasks, projects, and resources efficiently and effectively across various domains
  • Must be proficient in technology use; database development, querying, word processing, spreadsheet development, using Microsoft Office to accomplish work related tasks as required
