General Summary of Position:

The Director of Research & Learning leads the University Library’s Research & Learning department which develops and implements strategic research, instruction, and programing models that support the University’s educational and scholarly endeavors and includes strategic planning for the Center for Lowell History in collaboration with the Head Archivist. A key member of the Library Leadership Team, the Director for Research & Learning manages UML Library operations in the Dean’s absence, contributes expertise and knowledge of trends in research and learning in the academic library setting, collaborates with colleagues across campus at a high level (e.g., deans, directors, department chairs) on initiatives that support emerging needs (e.g., digital scholarship, open educational resources [OERs], data management including research and cultural heritage, faculty research support, and library collections/spaces), and oversees initiatives that connect learners and researchers with the resources of UML Library, including the rich archival holdings of the Center for Lowell History.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Education:
- Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or related/relevant discipline.
Experience:
- At least 10-15 years in an academic library, with 7+ years of experience supervising professional staff.
Skills:
- Reference and research support
- Library instruction
- Collection development and collections strategy
- Outreach to academic departments
- Experience working directly with faculty
- Awareness and understanding of the technology and trends in supporting research and learning in the library context
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing
Additional Considerations:
- Innovative, data-driven, service-oriented, excellent judgment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Second master’s degree
- Experience leading collaborative projects
- Experience supporting the adoption of OERs
- Experience supporting digital scholarship initiatives

This is a full-time, benefited SEIU union position in grade P23. Salary range minimum: $114,152, 25th quartile $131,275 and midpoint of $148,398.
