General Summary of Position:

The Assistant Director of Recreation Center Operations will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC).  Primary responsibilities will include management of CRC student welcome desk attendants and facility supervisors, CRC facility reservations and event scheduling, and CRC facility maintenance. In addition, the Assistant Director will oversee the Campus Recreation Center Membership process, daily transmittals for the department, and work collaboratively with Competitive Sports professional staff to staff and supervise the Campus Recreation Complex.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the CRC and Campus Recreation Complex including facility maintenance, work orders, and inspections. Review and approve internal reservations for the CRC via 25Live and schedule student welcome desk and facility supervisors as needed for internal reservations, special events, or external rentals at the CRC. Attend university 25Live Operations meetings to represent Campus Recreation and collaborate with other university departments for events and programs related to events at the CRC or Campus Rec Complex.

Manage program registration processes at welcome desk and customer service for all CRC patrons. Manage CRC guest and membership process for 300+ paid members which takes in $100k+ in revenue annually. Members with access to purchase a membership include alumni, immediate family members 18+ of faculty/staff/students/alumni, Master’s 55+ community members, and university approved affiliates. Collaborate closely with UCAPS on the membership process including ID creation and recreational facility and parking access.

Manage daily transmittal process (TM’s) by following appropriate money handling procedures and Transmittal SOP. Reconcile all daily transactions by running appropriate revenue report from designated recreation management software and cross-reference with CyberSource. Create TMs for online deposits and checks as outlined in SOP.

To manage TM process effectively, employee will need to work closely with Assistant Director of Club Sports & Business Administration, Campus Recreation part-time business administrator, UML Cash Management Services, UML Controller, and Treasurer’s Office in the UMass President’s Office. Assistant Director of Club Sports & Business Administration will be the designated primary backup for all TM’s when Assistant Director of Recreation Center Operations is on vacation or out of the office.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sports administration, management or a closely related field.  Relevant experience can also substitute for educational experience listed above

Experience:

  • 3-5 years working with college-aged students
  • Experience with student supervision
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid as well as CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification for Lay Responder, or ability to attain within first 6-months of hire

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with college students, university community, and external groups.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to handle a wide variety of details and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and with individuals and groups of various identities, cultures, and backgrounds
  • Business, budgeting, and accounting experience
