General Summary of Position:

The University Library at UMass Lowell strives to provide excellent library service in a dynamic, responsive, and inclusive environment. A vital part of the Library’s Access Services team, the Evening Supervisor supports daily operations by participating in building management (including opening & closing procedures), student employee supervision, Interlibrary Loan, circulation desk functions, customer services, stacks maintenance, and other projects as assigned.  

This position works with a high degree of independence during weekend and evening shifts, providing customer service and support for a wide range of library services and technology, enforcing library policies, managing the circulation desk, resolving non-routine problems, and serving as the primary resource for student employees during evening and weekend shifts. The Evening Supervisor contributes to a supportive team environment and works on projects that require close collaboration with other Access Services staff.   

We seek candidates who have a strong customer service orientation, outstanding communication skills, supervisory experience, and good judgment; who like to work both independently and as part of a team; and who are enthusiastic about learning and skill-building in a fast-paced environment.

Hours for this position are Sunday through Thursday 3 pm – 11 pm during the fall and spring semesters; summer hours: Monday through Friday, alternating days 9 am – 5 pm and 11 am – 7 pm. Flexibility around intersession, summer, and final exam periods may be needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 6 months of full-time work experience in a library setting OR 1-3 years of work experience in a customer service or public-facing work environment. Part- time experience directly relevant to the posting is calculated at 50%. 
  • Evidence of working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community; commitment to providing equitable service to a diverse population
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and independent decision-making skills 
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; must be detail-oriented and organized 
  • Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high level of confidentiality. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Demonstrated experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of academic library experience  
  • Some supervisory experience  
  • Experience using library specific systems, such as OCLC WorldShare or ILLiad

This is a full-time, benefited SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P15. Salary anticipated based on range: minimum: $54,217 25th quartile: $61,672 and midpoint: $69,126.
