General Summary of Position:
The Reactor Supervisor serves as the principal authority for management of all activities associated with the operation and maintenance of the UML nuclear research reactor, and maintaining compliance with all federal operating license and regulatory requirements. In addition, the Reactor Supervisor actively promotes the usage of both the reactor and gamma irradiation facilities for education, research, and industry service.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Master of Science in nuclear science, engineering, or related field required. Ph.D. in related fields is a plus.
- 10 years of nuclear reactor management experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) License.
Given the nature and responsibilities of the position, only U.S. persons (any individual who is a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident alien of the United States, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C.1324b(a)(3)) will be considered for this position.
Additional Considerations:
- Must pass USNRC background investigation requirements for access to nuclear materials and nuclear safeguards information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Requires extensive experience/training for working with ionizing radiation. The laboratory and nuclear reactor setting provide routine occupational exposures to ionizing radiation sources, and include facilities that can produce very high radiation exposures.
- Other occupational exposures include industrial hazards associated with material handling (experimental rigs, heavy lead shielding, etc.), the use of hoisting equipment for heavy loads, locations with the potential for slips and falls, and the occasional handling of lead, pressurized inert gas tanks, and concentrated sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid.
- The position requires the use of personal radiation measuring devices and the use of appropriate personnel protective equipment as needed.
- 24/7 on-call duty is required for response to emergency and/or security incidents.

This is a SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P23. Anticipated salary based on range minimum: $114,152, 25th quartile: $131,275 and midpoint: $148,398.
