General Summary of Position:
This being a promotional opportunity, only current UML Employees within the same Bargaining unit are eligible to apply for this position.
The Associate Director, Experiential Learning & Signature Programs will work closely with faculty and staff, on- and off-campus mentors, as well as undergraduate students to oversee experiential learning signature programs for undergraduates, specifically Immersive Scholars Moloney Scholars and the River Hawk Experience Distinction. The Assistant Director will provide both strategic planning and implementation and will work collaboratively across the Divisions of Academic & Student Affairs and Research & Innovation to coordinate key initiatives for undergraduate student success.
Provide overall coordination and management of Experiential Learning Signature programs:
- Supervise a Program Coordinator, student staff and Faculty Fellows
- Lead planning for growth of the RHED including establishing additional distinctions
- Play a key role in experiential learning strategic planning
- Identify opportunities for students and coordinate student/mentor partnerships
- Coordinate with financial aid and off-campus mentors
- Advise students regarding opportunities and processes
Manage the River Hawk Experience Distinction Program (RHED):
- Maintain list of approved applied experiences, work with Registrar’s Office to include classes on SiS as easy search feature for students
- Work with Student Affairs, Difference Maker Program and Study Abroad to coordinate student experiences
- Advise students interested in the program regarding requirements, process, etc.
- Work with registrar’s office and colleges to sign-off on graduating students’ transcript notations
- Coordinate Distinction Committees – coordinate onboarding, meetings and approval process
- Develop and execute recognition events for students graduating with a distinction
Manage Moloney Scholars Program:
- Provide outreach and information to campus community about program funding availability and funding internship opportunities
- Manage application portal and selection process
- Advise accepted students regarding internship search and hiring process
- Supervise Program Coordinator to track student
Maintain websites and marketing materials for Signature Programs and manage communications with external and internal constituents:
- Participate in admissions open house, student research symposium and other outreach activities.
- Work with Director of Assessment to assess effectiveness of signature programs.
Promote the University’s commitment to public service by:
- Building effective partnerships with co-workers within various University offices (admissions, financial aid, honors college, student affairs, study abroad and other) by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
- Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
- Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years relevant experience or graduate degree plus 3 years relevant experience
Additional Considerations:
Highly desirable:
- Prior experience with university-based student programs. Knowledge of university undergraduate signature programs (Immersive Scholars, Moloney Scholars and RHED), and experience coordinating events and workshops.
- Specific experience with UMass Lowell’s systems (such as SiS, JobHawk, and Tridion) are preferred.
- Proven record of accomplishment working with other departments (such as Honors College, financial aid, study abroad, DifferenceMaker, university relations, and student affairs). Ability to showcase effective communication skills including for marketing and public speaking.
