General Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Life Safety & Emergency Management, the Assistant Director has multifaceted responsibilities for leading and coordination of the development, implementation and administration of the university’s comprehensive emergency preparedness, business continuity and hazard mitigation programs and assisting Life Safety and EMS programs as required. He/she assist the university in effecting compliance with varies federal, state, local regulatory and   non-regulatory requirements pertaining to, emergency preparedness, business continuity, mitigation, and life safety.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelors Degree in emergency management or related field

(Will consider candidates with associate degree and 7 years’ experience in area related to emergency management, hazard mitigation, business continuity, emergency response, criminal justice, emergency medical services, health or another related field).  

  • 5 years’ experience in emergency management field including documented experience in at least two of the foundational areas of Prevention, Preparedness, Response, Mitigation, or Recovery.
  • ICS Certifications 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • Must be able to complete a 24 hours HAZ WOPER training and willing to be part of 7/24 hour emergency response team (must be able to complete within 6 months of hire)
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Valid driver’s license

Additional Considerations:

  • Licensed EMT-Basic or higher with eligibility in Massachusetts
  • FEMA credentialing (or equivalent) as a professional or master continuity practitioner
  • FEMA credentialing (or equivalent) as a Master Exercise Practitioner
  • Associate Emergency Manager or Certified Emergency Manager credentialing from the IAEM or equivalent State level credentialing
  • Experience teaching in the public safety profession (a plus)
  • Experience in managing a collegial EMS/EMT service (a plus)
  • Previous experience working within an academic institution or health care facility (a plus)
  • Technology use: database development, word processing, Microsoft office

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is an SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P20.
