General Summary of Position:

The Research Development Specialist is responsible for developing proposals, providing and managing research development activities, and coordinating teams who are developing proposals and research projects. The individual will work closely with faculty, researchers, and other stakeholders to identify funding opportunities, develop proposals, and manage the grant application process. This position requires an understanding of research methodologies, grant development strategies, federal, state, and philanthropic sponsor requirements, and project management skills.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, Communications, Humanities, or Social Sciences, or related field. (Will consider candidates with HS Diploma or GED/equivalent plus 7-10 years of directly related experience.)
  • 3+ years of experience in research development, grant writing, and/or research communications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proven track record of secure funding for research initiatives
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Knowledge of research funding agencies and the grant proposal process
  • Experience facilitating meetings, leading teams, and collaborating with stakeholders across an organization
  • Experience in data analytics, budget development, and project management
  • Knowledge of research compliance regulations

  • Excellent negotiation, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with constantly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a variety of constituencies
  • Excellent professional written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • 5+ years of research grant writing in a university setting
  • Graphics design experience
