General Summary of Position:

The Senior Executive Director of Enterprise Integration (SEDEI) identifies and fosters collaborative and economic opportunities in the Cybersecurity, Aerospace, and Defense industries and related sectors (e.g., life sciences, AI/robotics, big data, advanced manufacturing, etc.). The SEDEI will help develop, champion, and implement UMass Lowell’s strategic plan for enhancing research, corporate partnerships, external funding, and workforce development in these areas. In collaboration with UML’s executive team, the SEDEI will develop an overarching vision and strategy---incorporating UML’s main campus, UML East Campus Innovation District, NorthStar campus, and the UML Applied Research Corporation (UMLARC)---for growing UML’s reputation, branding and external funding for research and workforce development in these areas. The SEDEI is a mission-driven leader with a deep commitment to integrity, building collaborative relationships, and achieving tangible deliverables. The SEDEI possesses strong entrepreneurial skills, visionary leadership, military acumen, and business development experience. The SEDEI has existing knowledge of, and broad and high-level relationships with, the DoD and the defense sector in New England and beyond. The SEDEI is a catalyst for leveraging UML’s core competencies into solutions for the DoD and defense industry partners. It is expected that the SEDEI’s activities will generate annual revenues that meet or exceed those required to sustain the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or related technical field)
  • 20+ years of work experience in the defense sector, with experience at the executive level and with strong knowledge of DoD culture
  • Experience with multiservice acquisition, including those for Army, Air Force, and Special Operations Forces
  • Strong understanding of, and experience implementing key initiatives of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), including Manufacturing Technology (DOD ManTech), Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), and small business initiatives
  • Excellent communication, multimedia, and presentation skills, with experience developing, conceptualizing, and delivering business intelligence reports and graphical representations of complex concepts
  • Strong experience forming, sustaining, and growing diverse and interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent track record of strategic thinking and implementing strategies, with a focus on trusted supply chain, dual use applications, and industry-academic partnerships
  • Experience and strong interest in establishing workforce development programs, building competencies and recruiting the next generation of highly trained STEM workers

  • Eligible for Security Clearance

Given the nature and responsibilities of the position, only U.S. persons (any individual who is a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident alien of the United States, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C.1324b(a)(3)) will be considered for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience building relationships in Advanced Manufacturing, and a strong understanding of Advanced Manufacturing tenets, activities, and applications preferred
