General Summary of Position:

This position reports to the Executive Director of Facilities Operations and Services (O&S) and serves as the primary building and maintenance liaison for the SAAB Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center (ETIC). In addition, this position coordinates a range of maintenance and service support activity for laboratory and research spaces, and facilitates the lab equipment request program across the campus. The ETIC building houses a nanofabrication cleanroom and other types of labs such as characterization, wet and dry chemistry; mechanical properties testing; nanomedicine; and plastics research. 

This position is responsible for coordinating and reviewing Facilities Management maintenance and service activities in the ETIC Building, and will liaison with the technical staff, to ensure the physical plant supports the scientific mission of the university.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • BA/BS in Science or Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in managing technically sophisticated scientific research, clean biotech, health care or manufacturing facilities such as IC Fabrication, with knowledge of microelectronic clean rooms and their toxic and operational hazards and requirements
  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated in past positions of similar responsibility an ability to provide strong, effective leadership and even-tempered management
  • The successful candidate must have demonstrated in past position(s) of similar responsibility an ability to move projects forward decisively.  Availability and ability to remain on call 24/7 in cases of emergency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Due to the physical aspects and hazards associated with toxic materials and gasses associated with this position, the ability to wear Level A emergency turn out gear, SCBA, respirators, lift 60 pounds, good visual and hearing ability is required
  • If not certified as a hazardous materials responder, must successfully complete training courses within 120 days of employment
  • Must have ability to travel quickly between campuses and to off campus assignments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Science, Engineering or Business Administration, PE, CPE or CPMM is preferred
  • Previous experience developing policy and implementing procedures for highly specialized science and engineering buildings, laboratories and research operations
  • Professional experience in a highly dynamic higher education environment
  • Experience working with unionized trade environments
