General Summary of Position:
The Regional Admissions Counselor is responsible for freshmen and transfer student recruitment and represents UMass Lowell at targeted college fairs, high schools, and community college recruitment events in Long Island & Westchester County, N.Y; he or she will also attend regional college fairs in Southern Connecticut and other areas as available. The Regional Admissions counselor will counsel prospective students and their parents regarding admission criteria, application and financial aid processes, academic programs, merit-based scholarships, campus facilities and resources, student organizations and activities. The Regional Admissions counselor will also visit the UMass Lowell campus at various times throughout the year for trainings and Fall recruitment & Spring yield events. The Regional Admissions Counselor will report to the Director of International, Multicultural and Regional Admissions. This position is part-time (25hours per week) and non-benefitted.
Essential Job Duties:
Contributes to the generation of leads, applications, and enrollment of west coast students. The Regional Admissions Counselor represents UMass Lowell UGRD Admissions at college fairs and high school & community college recruitment visits and alumni functions both in person and virtually; advises and creates positive relationships with prospective students, parents, guidance counselors and transfer advisors. The Regional Admissions Counselor also initiates and responds to written, phone, email, and in-person inquiries; meets with prospective students and parents; makes formal presentations.
Assists with development and coordination of recruitment plans for targeted high schools and community colleges in the designated area. Assists with planning events to engage Guidance Counselors and Transfer Advisors.
Works with the alumni office to coordinate the efforts of alumni interested in helping with recruitment.
Compiles data and reports using Enrollment Planning Service, ACT Information Manager, Admissions CRM, school visit data, and observations in assessing and tracking effectiveness of a territory management plan. The Regional Admissions Counselor will provide updates and analytic reports on recruitment & yield efforts on a regular basis. Assists with related projects and reports.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending trainings or courses required by the Director of International, Multicultural, and Regional Admissions
The Regional Admissions Counselor for Long Island & Westchester Counties will be an active member of regional professional associations for the purpose of enhancing the reputation and visibility of UMass Lowell.
Assists with regional receptions for prospective and admitted students
The Regional Admissions Counselor will travel frequently to selected high school & community colleges and attend college fairs and alumni events. The Regional Admissions Counselors will visit the UMass Lowell campus at least twice per year. Evening hours and weekends are often required.
Must have the ability to interact well with external agents (i.e.: Guidance Counselors, prospective students, parents, Transfer Advisors).
Work requires judgment and/or independent thinking in performing a variety of duties. This role also requirements excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently and access to a reliable vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Job requires 1-2 years of experience in higher education or related field
- Understanding of UMass Lowell academic programs and opportunities
- Must reside in either Nassau, Suffolk or Westchester County
- Graduates of UMass Lowell or individuals with demonstrated and thorough knowledge of UMass Lowell programs and opportunities for prospective students
- Experience with Salesforce and SLATE CRM
