General Summary of Position:

The Assistant Director of Graduate Recruitment is responsible for planning and executing recruitment activities for graduate programs. Responsibilities include: attending recruitment events, college fairs, conducting information sessions, recruitment webinars, contacting prospective students and keeping them engaged during the recruitment, admissions and matriculation phases and assisting in planning and holding new student orientation. The Assistant Director of Graduate Recruitment will also participate and support evaluating and summarizing applications for admissions, collaborating with the marketing team, academic program coordinators/departments on marketing efforts and developing marketing materials.

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as the primary contact for prospective applicants in a set of graduate programs throughout the application process. Support the Assistant Dean of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions in developing goals and strategies for the recruitment of domestic, international students and students including underrepresented students in graduate education. 
  • Attend College Fairs, Department Events, hold webinars, utilize other technologies such as LinkedIn in recruitment and attend Corporate site visits regionally and nationally: Attend daytime and evening college fairs or other recruiting events either at Universities or larger conference spaces. The overall goal of travel is to increase the visibility of UMass Lowell and recruit students that will help the University meet its graduate program enrollment goals. In addition to in depth knowledge of the programs within the assigned colleges, the Assistant Director must be able to answer questions and speak to all aspects of UMass Lowell and the university’s academic programs.
  • Support the Assistant Dean of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions and the marketing team in developing and implementing outreach and communication plans to prospects and new students. Work collaboratively with Deans, Associate Deans and Graduate Coordinators to develop recruitment strategies for specific programs.
  • Partner with the faculty and program coordinators to capture key elements of the graduate programs and turn them into effective talking points to be utilized in recruiting graduate programs.
  • Support Admissions team in application review process. Manage the fellowship process and support the colleges in awarding graduate students with fellowships.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Master’s degree and 2-4 years of direct and relevant full-time professional work experience, or bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years of direct and relevant full-time professional work experience in a similar or closely related higher education role
  • Experience working with diverse populations required
  • Strong verbal communication, presentation, adaptability, collaboration, process management, detail orientation, organizational skills, analysis, data interpretation, interpersonal skills, and the ability to understand the big picture required
  • Experience in working with Customer Relationship Management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of higher education issues related to the recruitment, admission and enrollment of students required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across units and sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of diverse constituencies is required
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration strongly preferred given this role is involved in graduate-level student recruitment
  • Experience working with international students desirable, and experience in a graduate admissions office strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft, document imaging systems, and a CRM is highly desired
  • A successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic, who actively contributes in a high volume, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated skills in assisting with the development of marketing materials and using social media desirable
