Job Summary
The Student Information Systems (SIS) Technical Developer plays a critical role in supporting the operational success of Enrollment Management by managing a complex job stream of automated and manual processes. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliability and accuracy of data workflows that underpin student services and administrative functions. The developer designs and maintains quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) queries and system alerts to monitor data integrity and operational performance. This role requires close collaboration with functional and technical teams to support the student lifecycle through effective data integration, process automation, and system support.
Essential Functions
Integration and Process Management
- Architects, implements, and maintains mission-critical integration systems between multiple platforms including:
- Department of Education systems such as Common Origination & Disbursement (COD), Central Processing System (CPS), The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)
- Student information systems such as PeopleSoft, Workday
- Customer relationship management platforms such as Salesforce, Technolutions Slate
- Document management and electronic signature systems such as SoftDocs, Perceptive Content, and DocuSign
- Financial Aid Services / Department of Education applications such as TDClient, TDCM, EDconnect
- Develops and implements processes for:
- Real-time data synchronization
- Complex data transformation
- Error handling and monitoring
- Process optimization and performance tuning
- Creates and maintains comprehensive technical documentation for all integration processes.
- Assists staff with data transfer processes between external agencies and internal systems.
- Maintains working knowledge of financial aid processes and related software systems.
Development and Automation
- Creates and maintains automations using PowerShell, Boomi, and other scripting tools.
- Develops and maintains PeopleSoft queries and SQR programs for data extraction and reporting needs.
- Develops and improves tools to support continuous integration and delivery.
- Participates in code reviews and quality assurance processes to ensure operational continuity.
Security and Compliance
- Maintains compliance with university security policies and industry regulations
- Participates in security assessments and vulnerability remediation
- Documents and maintains security procedures for automated processes
Operations Support
- Manages virtual infrastructure to ensure reliable system availability.
- Provides Tier 2 (L2) support for critical incidents and escalated issues.
- Assists Endpoint Operations Manager using endpoint management systems (Quest K1000/K2000, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender).
- Develops automation tools for routine IT services and tasks.
- Maintains regular communication with stakeholders on system status.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Master's Degree in a related field plus two (2) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field plus four (4) years of relevant experience
- Associate's degree in a related field plus seven (7) years of relevant experience
- High school diploma/GED plus nine (9) years of relevant experience
- Experience with a major Student Information System (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, Workday, Colleague, Jenzabar, etc.) in a higher education environment.
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as PowerShell.
- Familiarity with report writing tools and batch processing used in academic administrative systems.
- Experience with system integrations and data exchange formats (e.g., flat files, APIs, web services).
- Experience with integration methods and development tools for enterprise administrative systems (e.g., SIS, ERP, Financial Aid), including but not limited to PeopleSoft, SAP, and Oracle E-Business Suite, as well as proficiency in Structured Query Reporting (SQR) and other relevant programming languages.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Experience with enterprise integration platforms (e.g., Boomi AtomSphere, MuleSoft, Apache Camel, Microsoft Power Automate).
- Ability to collaborate with academic and administrative departments to support student lifecycle processes through technical solutions.
- Familiarity with cloud services and development tools (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI, AWS CLI).
- Experience working in a higher education setting; familiarity with academic administrative processes and Financial Aid systems is a plus.
- Working knowledge of endpoint management tools.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Typical office environment activity.
Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Some evening and weekend work required for system maintenance.
- This position has the opportunity for a remote work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where the employee’s work location is to work from a site other than the UMass Amherst campus. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
