Job Summary

The Technical Specialist I performs semi-skilled building, construction, and maintenance tasks; and performs related work as required.  Extensively involved in pool maintenance.

 

Essential Functions

  • Primary duty is the maintenance of the two (2) University pools and the whirlpools within the Athletic facilities. Knowledgeable of and responsible for the following areas:
    • Must be versed in swimming pool/spa codes pertaining to water chemistry, water testing, water filtration and recirculation, water clarity, equipment, records chlorine gas, marking along with knowledge of the liability faced with violations responsibility and performance.
    • Proficient in calculations pertaining to surface area, pool capacities, user load and flow rate.
    • Knowledge of filters and filtration to include water clarity, filter sizing, sand filters, diatomaceous earth filters and cartridge filters.
    • Pool circulation and recirculation equipment.
    • Pool water sanitizing and chemical balance.
    • Pool water testing.
    • Swimming pool maintenance to include routine and preventive maintenance.
    • Pool operation problems and chemical adjustments.
    • Renovation and modernization.
    • Disease and accident prevention.
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and general care of all Athletic facilities including Campus Recreation facilities. This includes but is not limited to:
    • General turf management such as mowing of practice fields and playing surfaces, fertilizing, aeration, and weed control.
    • Game and practice setup and breakdown such lining fields, setting up batting cages and nets, trash and snow removal.
    • General facility maintenance such as painting logos.
    • Special facility maintenance projects such as office renovations.
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and general care of all Athletic Department equipment and materials required to perform assigned duties.
  • Operate all equipment and tools needed to perform assigned repair and maintenance of athletic facilities and grounds.  
  • Assist in the requisitioning of materials and equipment required in the care and maintenance of all Athletic Department facilities. 
  • Serve as an Athletic Department representative in regards to facility maintenance and game operations during all home varsity contests as assigned.
  • Serve as a University liaison with outside community groups and on-campus groups when occupying Athletic Department facilities. 
  • Strictly adhere to NCAA, conference, and University rules and regulations.

 

Other Functions

  • Attend conventions, conferences, meetings, and training sessions as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • One (1) year of related experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work a diversified schedule including nights and weekends with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written communications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Certified Pool Operator Certificate obtained within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Powered Platform Lift Certificate.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Previous experience in pool maintenance, pool chemical application and pool filtration systems.
  • Previous experience working with athletic facilities. 

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

The ability to perform balancing, carrying, pulling/pushing, repetitive movement, standing, bending, climbing, driving, reaching, sitting, twisting and lifting.

 

Additional Details

This position is essential. This includes the obligation to work overtime, return to work between scheduled shifts when directed and report during any delays, early departures and closures.

 

Work Schedule

Wednesday - Sunday; 7:00am - 3:00pm.
