Assistant/Associate Professor (Performing Arts) in UMass Boston
The Department of Performing Arts, in the College of Liberal Arts, at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position for Music Education and Conductor of Chamber Orchestra. The position begins on September 1, 2026 and will be at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. Primary duties include coordinating the Music Education program, which includes the Department’s BA Music – Music Education Track, and serving as the liaison with the University’s College of Education and Human Development Teacher Licensure Program. The successful candidate will teach courses such as chamber orchestra, instrumental methods, socio-cultural perspectives in music education, and advise students in the Music Education Track. The position holds a 2/2 teaching load and teaching/conducting chamber orchestra counts as one class. Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts will be in keeping with the candidate’s experience and expertise. The candidate will also provide service to the University, profession, and surrounding community.

The Senior Assistant Director for First-Year Access and Outreach will work within the Undergraduate Admissions Office and report to the Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Primary responsibilities include teaching Theatre Arts majors in the undergraduate performance curriculum and directing one departmental theatre production annually. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in acting and directing at all levels of the curriculum, and will also direct a range of potential theatre productions. Ideally, candidates will have one or more additional strengths in such areas as fight choreography, musical theatre, and movement or voice for the actor. The position holds a 2/2 teaching load with the direction of a theater production counting as one class.
