The University of Massachusetts Lowell recently received through the U.S. Department of Education, the Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) grant, which aims to mitigate AAPI students’ barriers to educational achievement by enhancing institutional programs and services. The AANAPISI Program Assistant is a temporary, part-time, non-benefitted position working 18 hours a week. This role will be responsible for assisting in coordinating outreach and recruitment efforts to AAPI students, promote UMass Lowell’s AANAPISI program, and supports the mission and goals of the AANAPISI five-year grant funded program.  The aim is to increase AAPI college degree attainment and overall student success. The AANAPISI Program Assistant collaborates with the Project Director, Program Coordinators, and campus partners to implement educational programs, provide culturally appropriate direct services to the AACEE student cohort program such as personal, cultural support and collaborate on facilitating career preparedness, student wellbeing and wellness, financial awareness & literacy, and identity development topics. We are seeking a candidate for Research Scientist working in the area of mechanical metamaterials, graded materials, generative design using AI and machine learning, and dynamics and impact of microstructured media, and who has experience with high fidelity direct numerical simulation as well as reduced order modeling of dynamics of structures and acoustics and ultrasonic experimentation and sensing. The candidate should have expertise in applied mechanics, physics of microstructured media, including exceptional points, symmetry, scattering, and overall effective properties of materials as well as the design of graded media using data-intensive low-fidelity but fast computational models. The ideal candidate will have a publication record demonstrating intellectual depth and breadth in the topics discussed and experience and success in developing proposals for various funding agencies as well as industrial partners. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Other tasks will include guiding the research direction, editing papers, posters, PowerPoints, and reports, seeking additional funding opportunities, proposal writing, budgeting, and leading research group meetings. Tasks may also include documentation of research findings, meeting with other research staff, supervising graduate students, collaborating on and presenting of scientific papers, and industrial outreach/proposal generation. An excellent history of presentation skills would be a plus. This position is contingent upon funding.
