 General Summary of Position:

The Director works closely with the Academic & Corporate Program Development unit to support the transition of new programs and faculty into online and technology-enhanced education programs.

The Director will oversee and coordinate the work of the Online Course & Faculty Development Unit, in a manner that ensures this team provides quality, state-of-the-art programming, training and support to the faculty who develop and teach for the Division of Graduate, Online & Professional Studies. The Director is expected to remain active and forward thinking in regard to educational technology trends that support and create educational access and opportunities for students and faculty. The Director will foster a collaborative work ethos that engages the Unit with partners across the Division and the University.

The Director will work closely with the Divisions Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the UMass Lowell Online Program is of the highest quality and in compliance with federal regulations, University requirements, and national best practices for online course development and delivery. The Director will assist in the development of policies and procedures for the online program, and will maintain coordination and communications with appropriate University administration as required. The Director and the Unit will ensure a smooth and efficient operation with regards to the preparation, management, and delivery of all online courses from throughout the calendar year.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):


  • Master’s Degree


  • Seven or more years of experience working in an academic setting with faculty in the development and management of online academic programs
  • Five or more years demonstrated supervisory management experience


  • Demonstrated knowledge of Blackboard Learn, including Blackboard Collaborate and Blackboard administration
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including strong presentation skills

Additional Considerations:

  • Strong Instructional Design Skills and Program Development skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of online teaching experience
