General Summary of Position:

Our UMASS Lowell BioManufacturing group has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead the development of a continuous bioprocess employing state-of-the-art quantitative NIR monitoring.

The Postdoctoral position will collaborate closely with the internal R&D team and the Valerion Therapeutics’ bioprocessing team to establish and optimize a continuous bioprocess that may be generally applied to the production of degradative and unstable therapeutics. Applications are encouraged from individuals with a strong research publication focus in bioprocessing, preferably relevant to both upstream and downstream purification of biologics including, but not limited to, proteins and monoclonal antibodies.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Ph.D. in appropriate field awarded no more than four (4) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment required
  • Proficient in both upstream (fermentation and/or cell culture using bioreactors) and downstream (ultrafiltration, protein purification) bioprocessing
  • Knowledge of quantitative process monitoring is a significant plus, preferably NIR
  • Must be highly reliable and goals/deadlines oriented
  • Intelligent individual who respects others and is open to new/different ideas
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills for setting up new lab and documentation system

Additional Considerations:

  • Excellent experience working in cross-functional team-oriented environments
  • Applicants must be self-motivated, highly organized and have strong presentation and communication skills
  • Basic understanding of regulatory agency guidance such as FDA, ICH and EMA and hands-on experience is a significant plus
  • GMP manufacturing experience is a significant plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred applicants will have a strong entrepreneurial spirit
  • Knowledge of quantitative process monitoring is a significant plus, preferably NIR

This position is contingent upon funding. The initial appointment will be for one year with a possibility of renewal contingent upon funding for another year, along with successful performance.
