General Summary of Position:

Incumbents of positions in this series operate boilers and related equipment; read meters and gauges at specified intervals; open and close valves and adjust controls; check/monitor operating systems to detect faulty operating equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Valid Massachusetts 2nd Class Steam Fireman (for Steam Fireman II)  or 1st Class Steam Fireman license (for Steam Fireman I) pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws

Special Instructions to Applicants: 

Note: This position is for Third Shift (Friday through Tuesday, 10:00 PM through 6:00 AM)
Potential shifts include: Friday to Tuesday from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM OR Tuesday to Saturday from 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM  

Only Internal (MTA - Maintenance & Trades Bargaining Union) candidates will be considered during the first 10 business days of the posting. All other candidates will be considered after that period.
