The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position in Italian Studies at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to start September 1st, 2023. Primary responsibilities are to provide high-quality teaching and service to the Italian program, and the Department. This position is renewable annually, potentially leading to an appointment as Associate Teaching Professor following six consecutive years of outstanding performance evaluations. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Italian Literature and Cultural Studies with a focus in 19th century and be familiar with inclusive teaching strategies in the Italian language classroom. The teaching load will be three courses per semester.

Responsibilities will consist of teaching existing courses at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate would also be involved in advising of undergraduate students in the Italian program, service and outreach activities, and actively participating in continuing efforts to improve the department's educational mission. Additionally, the university seeks candidates who have taught at least 5 years in a full-time appointment at a 4 year degree granting institution.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Italian Literature and Cultural Studies
  • Experience and demonstrated excellence teaching at the undergraduate level is required, particularly in language courses
  • Experience and demonstrated excellence in creating and leading a study abroad program in Italy
  • Demonstrated record of student recruitment and retention within the Italian program
  • Experience in curriculum developing and demonstrate excellence in creating more diverse courses
  • Experience with inclusive teaching strategies in the Italian Language classroom
  • Experience in developing and using OERs within the Italian curriculum
  • Experience in undergraduate advising
  • Experience in coordinating Departmental Language Placement Exams
