General Summary of the Position:

This being an internal opportunity, only current UML Employees, irrespective of Bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.

The Department of Music at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a Director of Choral Activities to begin September 2023. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, assistant teaching professor appointment.

Candidates must hold a DMA in Choral Conducting and have a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the university level, including direction of collegiate choral ensembles and classroom instruction in Conducting and Choral Pedagogy.

Responsibilities include direction of the UML Choirs (Chamber Singers and University Choir) and Early Music Ensemble, with additional support for the UML Choral Union and oversight of vocal performance and Music Studies outreach initiatives. Classroom teaching includes courses selected from the Musicianship and Analysis sequence required for all music majors, Conducting, Choral Repertoire and Pedagogy classes required for all Music Studies majors, and the Teaching Artistry class for Performance majors.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • DMA in Choral Conducting.
  • A successful record of a minimum of five years of teaching experience at the university level.
