General Summary of Position:

The Communications & Programming Specialist is in charge of creating and publishing content, overseeing office activities related to campus marketing communications, developing newsletters and other publications, planning and executing career development programming. The Communications & Programming Specialist will be leading key communications and programming work in close collaboration with Career Services and Employer Relations. A special emphasis is on career discovery and professional development programming that involve employers as experts.

Marketing Communications:

  • Manage digital media including social media, web site, digital display, and email newsletters.
  • Coordinate print and digital advertising.
  • Create and publish content.
  • Create and implement new communications strategies and tasks to further departmental goals.
  • Supervise graphic design and digital media student staff.

Programming:

  • Plan and execute career development events, excluding recruiting events.
  • Collaborate closely with Career Services and Employer Relations on brainstorming ideas, prioritizing career development needs and opportunities, and translating priorities into events.
  • Coordinate event scheduling and logistics.
  • Maintain coordination with Operations & Special Events.

Operations:

  • Develop and manage a communications plan.
  • Manage day to day operations of departmental campus communications.
  • Lead internal marketing communications workgroup.
  • Develop campus partnerships to support programming and marketing goals.
  • Assess outcomes of programming and communications efforts.

Career fairs and recruiting events:

  • Serve as a member of the Career Fair Operations team.
  • Assist Career Fair Operations team with student-oriented marketing communications.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Employer Relations team on student-oriented marketing strategies for recruiting events.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 3 years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience with marketing communications, social media, and event management.
  • Experience writing and producing professional communications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Photo and video editing for web/social media.
  • Strong inclination for customer services.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with computers and office technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Experience in higher education or working with college students is highly desirable.

This is an SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade P16.
