General Summary of Position:

The Tsongas Industrial History Center Facilitator handles complex logistics required to ensure that school groups visiting the Center (at Lowell National Historical Park) for a field trip have a smooth, positive, safe experience. Up to 14 groups a day may visit in the busiest seasons (fall and spring). This position may also assist with logistics for other visitors to the Center and some clerical tasks. The position is a seasonal, part-time, non-benefited, non-unit position contingent upon funding and volume of visitation. (M-F, up to 20 hours/week, 4 hours/day, 8:30 am-12:30 pm, mid-September through mid-June.)

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED/equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ prior experience in managing groups (preferably groups of youth), interacting with visitors to a site, organizing information, and anticipating possible problems to ensure a smooth, positive visit
  • Ability to problem-solve calmly and promptly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups (Lowell NHP Maintenance staff, museum teachers, visiting educators and students, and TIHC leadership team) to effectively manage sometimes complex logistics
  • Strong dedication to customer service marked by flexibility and kindness
  • Organized and attentive to detail
  • Ability to predict and troubleshoot logistical complications using quick and sound judgment
  • Ability to exercise discretion
     

Additional Considerations:

  • Nature of position requires time outdoors in all kinds of weather and occasionally requires some work from home (phone calls) during extremely bad weather or emergency situations
    • It is often necessary to help move bulky lunch carts
    • Work involves a mix of routine, well-established methods and unusual or changing situations that require quick and sound judgment
  • The facilitator brings problems not of a routine nature to the attention of the manager
