General Summary of Position:

The successful applicant will conduct analytical and experimental research in the areas of upcycling polyolefins with an emphasis on using thermochemical conversion approaches and help immediate supervisor in writing scholarly articles and proposals. Supervise graduate and undergraduate students as assigned.

The initial appointment will be for 1 year with a possibility of renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • PhD in Chemistry or Chemical, Polymer, Environmental, or Material Engineering

Experience:

  • 1-year (or more) experience in thermochemical conversions and 1year (or more) experience in grant writing/application and scientific writing

Skills:

  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Strong technical report writing and communication skills
  • Quantitative research methods and statistics
  • Qualitative research methods including conducting open and semi-structured interviews

Additional Considerations:

  • Should demonstrate a minimum number of at least 3 first-authored publications in the field
  • Ability to work independently, with limited direction, as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to mentor and inspire students with limited research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to operate hydrothermal reactors
  • Ability to maintain GC-MS and pyrolysis GC-MS
