General Summary of Position:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for an hourly part-time position for persons with machining (manual and CNC), metrology, and workshop safety expertise. The successful candidates will be expected to assist with courses that include machining and manufacturing components: MECH 2020 Manufacturing Laboratory and MECH 4230 Capstone Design.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Provide instruction on the proper use of basic metrology instruments, the safe operation of industrial type manufacturing equipment, to include but not limited to the basic operation of manual and CNC Milling Machines and Lathes, training and demonstration of good manufacturing and safety practices and the enforcement of safety procedures as a requirement for student use of the Manufacturing Lab.
  2. Assist faculty/staff and students with machining laboratory coursework requirements as well as machining for capstone projects.
  3. Provide general machining services in support of the College of Engineering research projects as time permits, and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff.
  4. Maintain shop equipment and tooling, and implement cleanliness, in order to maintain a functional space for instruction.
