General Summary of Position:

The Office of University Relations is responsible for promoting the university to the campus, prospective students and families, alumni, granting institutions, the legislators and the general public. The Staff Writer I researches and writes articles and other content for the university website and other print and electronic vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field
  • 3+ years in a combination of relevant education and journalism or marketing communications, writing in a variety of formats and styles, including the web, for multiple audiences
  • Familiarity with AP style
  • Evidence of strong writing, editing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team

Additional Considerations:

  • Marketing experience
  • Experience in higher education communications
  • Experience with web content management systems
  • Experience illustrating story with art or video
