General Summary of Position:
The Submillimeter-Wave Technology Laboratory (STL) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is looking to fill a full-time benefitted position within our Radar Electronics Systems group. STL is an energetic, innovative Laboratory that operates a nationally recognized radar-modeling program supporting government-sponsored radar signature collection and materials characterization efforts.
The fundamental role of the individual will be to engage with senior staff and support the development, construction, and upgrade efforts of RF-to-mm-wave radar systems. The individual will also be tasked with activities such as LabVIEW or Matlab programming, PCB design and layout, operating indoor compact radar range systems, data acquisition hardware and software development, as well as electronics systems and sub-systems component-level layout, assembly, and repair.
The individual will be expected to productively team with STL senior staff to meet program requirements as well as support senior staff in the pursuit of new externally sponsored research. The candidate should be motivated, growth-oriented, and capable of demonstrating their potential as a productive technical staff member. The candidate must be willing to work in small groups to meet team goals as well as operate independently to achieve individual goals.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- A bachelor’s degree in science or engineering (e.g., electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, physics) or another related field is required
- The candidate must be able to obtain a US government security clearance within 3 months from the date of hire and retain the clearance while employed at STL
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with analog electronics – systems/circuits
- Good computer programming skills (e.g. LabVIEW, Matlab, Python, C/C++)
- Applicants with experience in the following are preferred: microwave electronics/components/circuits, microcontrollers and FPGAs, radar or related systems/electronics, PCB design and layout, digital signal processing algorithms and hardware, as well as analog/RF circuit design

- The ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively with diverse groups as well have solid oral/written communication, interpersonal, and deadline management skills
