General Summary of Position:

The CRF Laboratory Technologist will assist the ACL-NMR-LYO Lab Manager in the daily operations of three CRF laboratories, namely, the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (ACL), the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Laboratory (NMR) and the Lyophilization Laboratory (LYO), and assist as needed, the Lab Manager of the Materials Characterization Lab (MCL). The primary responsibilities include providing technical expertise (assisting instrument self-users, performing chemical/structural analysis, and assisting users in developing experimental analytical design strategies) in each of these core laboratories, and assisting the Lab Manager(s) in managing the operations and maintenance of major research infrastructure including a 400MHz NMR system, a pilot scale lyophilizer, a suite of HPLC, GPC, GC/MS, LC/MS instruments.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • B.S. degree plus 3-6 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment are required.  B.S. degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, clinical sciences, pathology, physics, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, or other closely related disciplines.
  • General knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry research
  • Thorough understanding of high performance liquid chromatography techniques, methods, and troubleshooting using various detectors
  • Ability to assist users with protocol and method development and problem solving 
  • Well versed in scientific processes
  • Experience working within a research laboratory ,clean room environment, and familiarity with quality, compliance and regulatory standards
  • Solid understanding and extensive working experience in sample preparation and laboratory operations
  • 1 to 2 years of demonstrated experience in scientific instrument analytical techniques
  • Excellent written, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Quick learner, self-motivator, flexible, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment

Additional Considerations:

  • Prefer familiarity operating a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer, performing 1D and 2D experiments, monthly GLP protocols, and cryogen fills
  • Ideal candidate should be a self-starter and customer-service oriented
  • Ability to support several facilities and various technical functions on campus 
  • Ability to use solid judgment
