General Summary of Position:

The Submillimeter-Wave Technology Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is actively seeking an experienced and motivated Senior RF Engineer to support its electronics hardware development and radar signature measurement efforts. The individual in this full-time benefitted position will collaborate with other senior engineering and science staff in the development and construction of electronics systems spanning the RF to millimeter-wave region used in indoor compact radar signature measurement ranges. The individual will strengthen STL’s core engineering expertise in the areas of instrumented radar electronics systems.

STL is an energetic, innovative Laboratory that operates a nationally recognized radar-modeling program supporting government-sponsored electromagnetic signature collection and materials development efforts.

Other duties may include some optical system design and electromagnetic scattering analysis. Depending on program requirements, the individual may also be asked to participate in software development efforts that support compact radar range operations (e.g. data acquisition and signal/image processing). Knowledge of software packages such as LabVIEW, Matlab, and Keysight Pathwave (ADS), etc. are desired.

The individual will also be expected to participate with other senior staff in the pursuit of new externally sponsored research as well as mentor and guide STL technical staff and students engaged in a variety of projects supporting the laboratory’s mission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with the design and construction of rf/microwave electronics systems
  • Experience in the creation and implementation of signal processing algorithms applied to complex data (e.g. Nyquist sampling requirements, the Fourier Transform, etc.)
  • Familiarity with digital electronics and related concepts especially with regards to analog signal acquisition and system control (e.g. ADCs, microcontrollers/SBCs, CPLD/FPGAs)
  • Hands-on experience with programming platforms such as LabVIEW and/or Matlab
  • Experience with rf/microwave analog electronics design modeling tools such as Keysight Pathwave (ADS)

Additional Considerations:

  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively with diverse groups as well have solid oral/written communication, interpersonal, and deadline management skills
