General Summary of Position:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for project management, design, and preparation of drawings and specifications for the mechanical components of a variety of capital projects ranging from research and laboratory equipment installation to modifications of building mechanical systems, as well as development of campus standards and peer review of designs prepared by consulting designers.

This position will use their technical knowledge and creative problem solving ability to support colleagues in Facilities Management in developing energy efficient solutions to mechanical challenges.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or directly related discipline
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (mechanical) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design and consultation
  • Must complete training and attain MCPPO (Massachusetts Procurement Training) status within one year of hire
  • Must possess valid OSHA10 certification within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to prepare, read, and interpret AutoCAD and Revit drawings and mechanical specifications
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable codes
  • Working knowledge of research laboratory practices and mechanical systems
  • Ability to prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets
  • Ability to work constructively with a wide range of technical, academic, administrative, and professional people
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Excellent written, oral, and graphic communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be a self-directed problem solver
  • Ability to access any portion of a construction site or facility campus wide

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s and/or terminal professional degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Additional construction industry and/or project management related certifications, licensure, or registrations such as Registered Architect, Professional Engineer (plumbing, electrical, or other discipline in addition to mechanical), Construction Supervisor, or LEED AP
  • Prior experience with Massachusetts public procurement construction laws
  • Experience with STEM laboratory facilities in a higher education, corporate, or other institutional facilities
