General Summary of Position:

The Space Planning Specialist supports the Planning and Facilities Information Services (FIS) teams. They are responsible for planning data collection, study and plan preparation, developing measured drawings, test fit plans, and FIS data maintenance, including field survey of space configuration and use.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Planning, or related discipline,
  • Minimum one (1) year of responsible and practical experience in design, architecture, planning, urban design, or relevant university facilities work. Internships in these areas, with sample work products, may qualify as relevant experience
  • Experience with the Autodesk software suite, particularly Autocad
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and graphics communication

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Strong spatial reasoning and conceptual design skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop measured drawings of existing conditions
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects concurrently
  • Demonstrated experience in graphics software, word processing, and spreadsheets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with programming, capital projects, and space planning in a university or large institutional setting
  • Experience with relevant software including Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or equivalent
  • Working knowledge and experience with REVIT software and/or GIS
  • Experience working within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regulatory framework for public facility planning, design, and construction
  • Experience with Python, Javascript, HTML, CSS,  and SQL
