General Summary of Position:

University of Massachusetts Lowell has an excellent opening for a full-time Counseling Clinician at Counseling Services, part of the UMass Lowell Wellness Center.  Counseling Services strives to empower, support, and assist students in the pursuit of their academic, professional, and personal endeavors.  Counseling Services clinicians work with undergraduate and graduate students to tackle challenges and remove barriers to growth, change, happiness, peace, or well-being.

The Counseling Clinician will conduct initial assessments of students to co-create a treatment plan and assist students in connecting with campus and off-campus resources to get their mental health goals met.  They will provide individual counseling, engage in crisis intervention, lead therapy groups, conduct advanced training seminars, and have the opportunity to be a primary supervisor for therapists-in-training.  The ideal candidate for this position will be a superb and experienced clinician,, exceptionally warm, engaging, collaborative, and welcoming to a highly diverse student population.

The Counseling Clinician provides mental health services for diverse student population and consultation/outreach to the university community; trains and supervises graduate trainees. The Counseling Clinician will also work collaboratively as a member of the Wellness Center team to support students at UMass Lowell.

The Counseling Clinician will join a strong, hard-working, creative, spirited, dedicated, collaborative, supportive, and positive team of multidisciplinary mental health care providers.  The working environment truly incorporates self-care into clinical practice and celebrates diversity in all its forms.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Master’s degree in clinical social work, counseling, psychology or a closely related field and a minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in crisis intervention, clinical assessment, risk assessment, and suicide prevention
  • Commitment to and demonstrated ability to provide multiculturally competent clinical services to a diverse student population
  • Experience in working with developmental issues common to the 18-25 year old college/university student population
  • Current license to practice in relevant clinical/counseling or social work field in U.S.  If licensed in a state other than Massachusetts, ability to obtain Massachusetts licensure within 3 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in counseling or psychology
  • Experience working or training in a college or university counseling center
  • Bilingual with experience providing mental health services in language(s) other than English
