General Summary of Position:  

This position reports to the Hazardous Material Manager/Biosafety Officer.  The position is responsible for the operations and programs related to the Hazardous Materials Receiving Stockroom.  This program includes managing the acceptance, inventories, disbursement of hazardous products (chemical, biological, radiological) and related supplies, the maintenance of storage areas and equipment, and shipping of products through IATA & DOT regulations. Provides department wide support with laboratory operations, daily water quality & general operations requirements for pool, and continued enhancement of UMass Lowell’s commitment for environmental sustainability initiatives.  Being an active emergency responder for hazardous materials, bodily fluid and environmental releases.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • HS Diploma or GED/equivalent and 5 years of directly related experience working in a stockroom department program that has responsibility for receiving and shipping of hazardous materials
  • Experience shipping of products through IATA & DOT regulations
  • Must be medically able to pass a physical for wearing of respiratory protection for participating as a member of the hazardous materials response team
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Must possess a driver’s license

Additional Considerations:

  • Demonstrated experience with the disposal of biological, infectious, hazardous, non-hazardous and recycling materials.  *Self-starter and goal orientated
  • Able to work harmoniously with Administration, Faculty, Staff and Students
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with faculty, staff, students and university departments
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with federal, state and municipal regulatory agencies such as DEP, Lowell wastewater, Lowell Fire Dept. and EPA
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with EHS program contractors and vendors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED/equivalent and 5 years of directly related experience working in a stockroom department program that has responsibility for receiving and shipping of hazardous materials
  • Experience shipping of products through IATA & DOT regulations
  • Must be medically able to pass a physical for wearing of respiratory protection for participating as a member of the hazardous materials response team

  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license

Special Instructions to Applicants:
