General Summary of Position:

The Coordinator of Outdoor Programs and Boathouse Manager would supervise all day to day activity at the Bellegarde Boathouse as well as coordinate programmatic efforts related to the kayak center and outdoor adventure program in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Outdoor and Bicycle Programs.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage the Outdoor Adventure Program including (training and managing part-time staff members, 30 + trips per year, instructional programs, equipment maintenance, and equipment replacement) 
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Bellegarde Boathouse Kayak Center and Summer Kayaking programs including staff training, scheduling, community relations. 
  • Supervise all activity at the Bellegarde Boathouse.
  • Coordinate programming activities of the various user groups including: (UMass Lowell Men’s and Women’s Club Rowing, Merrimack River Rowing Association, Lowell High School Crew, Tsongas Industrial History Center and various special events.)
  • Oversee planned budget to including monthly budgeting, payroll, maintenance  and equipment.
  • Maintain website related to the boathouse and outdoor adventure.
  • Utilize program and departmental software as needed.
  • Administer Campus Recreation risk management protocols throughout all programs.
  • Supervise the purchase, maintenance, and long term planning of inventory, including equipment and staff clothing.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation, Recreation Management, or a closely related area
  • 1-3 years experience in a outdoor adventure programming 
  • 1-3 years experience in recreational and water related programming and risk management protocols
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with students and community members
  • Wilderness medical certification by a nationally recognized organization 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of recreational needs, interests, and programming methodology within an institution that includes large numbers of on-campus and commuting students
  • ACA or BCU Kayak Instructor Certification 
  • Graduate degree in Outdoor Recreation, Recreation Management, or closely related area
  • Experience in youth programming
  • Familiarity with current trends and practices within the outdoor recreation field

This is an SEIU 888 Professional Union position, Grade 15.
