General Summary of Position:

The Center for Lowell History is seeking a part-time Library Special Collections Assistant.

Responsibilities include:

Tasks to be shared and coordinated with Archivist and Special Projects Manager and PADA Archivist 

  • Alarm and de-Alarm Mogan Center in coordination with National Park Protection/Employees   

  • Follow all UMass Lowell and LNHP Covid19 work protocols.  

  • Schedule appointments with Faculty, Students and researchers to access CLH resources. Assist in retrieving materials and instructing on use policies.  

  • Respond to research questions, by phone, email, and LibAnswers while maintain a record of daily visitor and research requests with topic, collections accessed, and point of contact point: (phone, email, in person)  

  • Maintain photocopier and microfilm readers and assist patron use.  

  • Maintain physical files and databases for Agreements, Collections, Correspondence, Donations, Inventories and Finding Aids, Oral History Release Forms, Policies, etc. 

  • Inventory and shelf-read archival and bibliographic holdings. 

  • Process Archival Collections 

  • Transcribe Oral History interviews and secure release forms 

  • Assist in digitizing and creating metadata for Center for Lowell History’s online collections. 

  • Lift heavy boxes, rearrange and re-house collections to maximize shelving efficiency. 

  • Supervise/train work study students and interns.    

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • HS Diploma/GED equivalent and some related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college preferred

Special Instructions to Applicants: 

This is a temporary, part-time, non-benefited, non-unit position (18 hours per week).
