General Summary of Position:

The Manager Animal Research Program serves as the initial and primary regulatory resource for faculty and staff who conduct animal research.  The Manager is responsible for management of all activities related to laboratory animal research and facility oversight to ensure compliance with federal regulatory guidelines and institutional policies.  The Manager’s primary duties include working closely with the Attending Veterinarian, faculty, staff, and students to conduct animal research within the constraints of the regulatory bodies and follow Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies to protect animal welfare.  The Manager supports other ORI activities.  Must be familiar with Animal Welfare Act, Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, IACUC Guidebook, and USDA regulations for animal research

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Animal Science or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years management experience of a vivarium facility
  • Years of experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • Husbandry experience working with rodents

Additional Considerations:

  • Understanding of animal research compliance and regulatory requirements 
  • AALAS Certification- may be acquired after hire
  • After certification is acquired, maintain certification by taking continuing education credits as necessary
