General Summary of Position:

Professor Yan’s lab is developing nanotherapeutics to combat antimicrobial resistance. The current project focuses on developing nanotherapeutics to target bacteria, including nanoantimicrobials and antimicrobial delivery systems.  Skills required include syntheses of small molecules, polymers, nanoparticle and nanoclusters as well as testing their activities and modes of action against bacteria.  The position requires a strong background in synthetic and materials chemistry, and experience in testing nanomaterials in in vitro and/or in vivo settings.  Experience in carbohydrate synthesis is a plus.  The candidate will have demonstrated high research productivity  and publication record, strong work ethics and the ability to conduct independent research and collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Earned PhD in chemistry or a related field by the time of the appointment
  • Strong knowledge in synthetic chemistry
  • Ability to design and synthesize organic molecules, polymers, and nanomaterials
  • Strong lab techniques in synthetic chemistry
  • Extensive experience in making small molecules, polymers, nanoparticle, and nanoclusters
  • Experience working with cell and bacteria cultures, microbiology, and molecular biology assays
  • Strong independent problem solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

This position is contingent upon funding. The initial appointment will be for one year with a possibility of renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.
