General Summary of Position:

This being an internal opportunity, only current UML Employees, irrespective of bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs reports to the Dean of the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences and will be expected to work closely with the College’s Leadership Team of Department Chairs, School Deans, and fellow Associate Deans; the University Vice Provosts for Academic Affairs; and other officials in Academic Affairs. The expectation is that the Associate Dean will:

  • Support effective interaction between the Departments, the Schools, the College and the University around issues important to the College.
  • Implement policies and develop resources that promote and enhance the education enterprise of the College.
  • Serve as a resource for College faculty regarding external partnerships and respond to emerging opportunities as well as assist with development and expansion of sites for student experience.
  • Cultivate partnerships with other University units and with academic and nonacademic entities outside the University.
  • Act as a liaison to the Vice Provost and represent the College in University-wide activities relating to education and community service.
  • Provide support in the administration and development of new academic programs, including the potential establishment of new undergraduate, Graduate programs, Professional programs and continuing education programs.
  • Develop college-wide efforts around faculty development and mentoring with a focus on curriculum and instruction.
  • Represent the College at meetings and events.
  • Provide support regarding academic appeals/complaints, policies and procedures.
  • Assist with enrollment management activities and retention efforts.
  • Provide support for new faculty and organize College-wide seminars, workshops and symposiums to promote enhanced instruction, collaborations and external relationships.
  • Maintain an active scholarship program.
  • Serve on College and University committees.
  • Special projects as assigned by the Dean.  

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Terminal degree in a health or public health discipline or in a closely related field
  • Tenured Associate or full professor
  • Proven success as an academic leader
  • Management experience in an academic environment
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that nurtures diverse forms of inquiry and scholarship 

Additional Considerations:

  • Achievements commensurate with a tenured appointment including national recognition as a scholar
  • Experience planning, implementing, and sustaining clinical, community, and industry partnerships is highly desirable
  • Experience with professional accreditation
