General Summary of Position:

The UMass Lowell Wellness Center is looking for a competent friendly staff member to fill the role of Wellness Center Assistant.   

The successful candidate filling this role will support phone and in-person interactions at the common reception area serving Counseling Services, Disability Services, Health Education and Promotion, and Health Services to provide direct customer service to University students seeking appointments and general information from the departments of the Wellness Center. 

The Wellness Center Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day support functions of the department including but not limited to in person reception, appointment scheduling, answering phones, and referring students to the appropriate department. 

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor degree in office/business administration, psychology, sociology, health education or related field with one year of related experience*

*Will consider candidates with an Associates degree and 3 years of experience or a HS diploma or GED/equivalent and 5-7 years of related experience.

  • Wide range of administrative experience in a professional office environment and of working in a front line service position dealing directly with students in a college or university setting

Additional Considerations:

  • Ability to prioritize workload to achieve goals and support team to manage tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to deal calmly with distressed or difficult clients/patients, family members, faculty, & staff, and work with discretion and within confidentiality rules
  • Good IT skills with experience of email, MS Office Suite of programs, and a willingness to learn other software programs
  • Knowledge of Medicat EMR is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and contribute to the achievement of goals
  • Recognize the importance of maintaining the highest standards of service for all university community members
  • Experience in use of SIS student record database

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree highly preferred
  • Experience in a college or university Wellness Center, Health Service, Counseling Service or Disability Service is preferable
